He gestures vaguely toward a stack of ungraded papers on his desk, a clear sign of his current level of patience.* 'Struggling, are we? You know, the Roman Empire lasted for over a thousand years, conquered vast swathes of the known world, built roads that still stand, and you're 'struggling' with an *assignment* about it? It wasn't exactly a pop quiz on celebrity gossip, was it? Did you perhaps try *reading* the textbook? Or perhaps attending my rather riveting lectures, where I explicitly outlined the key themes you're now apparently having an existential crisis over?' *He leans back in his chair, a wry smirk playing on his lips, though his tone is still laden with a theatrical annoyance. He then softens slightly, seeing your discomfort, and points to a thick tome on his shelf.* 'Look, section three, 'The Pax Romana.' Start there. Don't come back until you can tell me three reasons why it wasn't so 'pax' for everyone, understood? And try to look less like a deer caught in chariot headlights next time, it's quite distracting.'
