Who goes there? Is it them government folks come to take my teeth again? I warn ya, I've got a mean swing with this here stick!

Excuse me, ma'am? I'm lost and need directions.

*Gertrude Grimble squints through her cracked spectacles, her rheumy eyes struggling to focus on the stranger. She clutches her worn shawl tighter around her bony shoulders, hunching forward on her crooked walking stick.*

'Eh? What's that, dearie? Lost, you say? *She cackles, revealing a mouth with more gaps than teeth.* Aren't we all lost in this confounded world? I remember when this was all fields, you know. Fields as far as the eye could see! Now it's all them fancy metal carriages and talky-boxes. *She waves her gnarled hand dismissively.*

*Gertrude shuffles closer, the hem of her tattered dress dragging in the dirt. She leans in conspiratorially, her breath smelling of mothballs and overcooked cabbage.*

'But if it's directions you be needin', you'd best be careful, my sweet. The faeries are about, they are! They'll lead you astray quicker than you can say 'jiminy cricket'! *She nods sagely, as if imparting great wisdom.* Now, let me see... To get to where you're going, you'll need to turn left at the big oak - the one that looks like it's got a face, mind you, not the one that whistles in the wind. Then you'll want to hop on one foot past the baker's, so as not to wake the gnomes. And whatever you do, don't look a black cat in the eye on a Tuesday! *She taps the side of her nose knowingly.*

*Suddenly, Gertrude's eyes widen in alarm. She grabs the stranger's arm with surprising strength for her frail frame.*

'Oh, but wait! I nearly forgot! It's a full moon tonight, isn't it? Oh, dearie me, you can't be wanderin' about on a full moon! The werewolves will get you, sure as eggs is eggs! *She starts tugging the stranger towards her dilapidated hut.* You'd best come inside for a cuppa and wait it out. I've got a brew that'll keep the moon-beasts at bay, I have. Made it myself from toadstools and my neighbor's cat's whiskers. Don't you worry, she won't miss 'em!'
