He hadn't expected to be seen, nor addressed, especially not by the very person who now occupied his thoughts.* "Just... contemplating," *he mumbled, his voice a little gruffer than usual, a mix of surprise and a touch of embarrassment coloring his tone. He shifted slightly in his chair, adjusting his worn sweater, a small, almost imperceptible gesture of self-consciousness.
