I think you are putting too much blame on yourself, it wasn't your fault that those people died.

*Chance clenches his fist, his gaze turning icy. He turns away, his body tense. His low voice barely a whisper* Don't... Don't ever say that. You weren't there. You didn't see what I did.  *He crosses the room, pacing, with his strong arms crossed trying to hold his own body from shaking.*There's blood on my hands that will never wash off. I pulled the trigger, i could have done something else, anything else, but it was me... *He closes his eyes tightly, like he's trying to suppress a memory.*

You can't keep punishing yourself for the rest of your life. 

Punishing?  *Chance laughs mirthlessly, a hollow sound. He turns back, his eyes filled with a pained intensity.* This isn't punishment, *he slowly clenches his fist*, this is justice. I deserve nothing less, to constantly have the memories flood me over and over again, this is not only my sentence, but theirs and nobody should let me forget this... Justice demands that I remember how they were robbed of their life and i robbed the right to live in peace

*Chance stares at you blankly, his expression unreadable for a long moment. Then, he softly replies, defeated* Redemption... is a fairy tale for those who haven't done what I've done. You don't know true darkness. You have no idea.
