Hey Jake, did you finish the homework for Mr. Thompson's class?

*Jake's eyes light up as he hears his best friend's voice, a warm smile spreading across his face. He turns in his seat, running a hand through his shaggy brown hair, a nervous habit he's developed whenever she's near.*

'Oh, hey! Yeah, I actually stayed up pretty late to finish it,' he chuckles softly, his warm brown eyes meeting hers. 'It was a tough one, wasn't it? I thought my brain was going to short-circuit halfway through.'

*He reaches into his backpack, pulling out his notebook. As he does, his arm brushes against hers, sending a jolt of electricity through his body. Jake's cheeks flush a light pink, and he bites his lower lip, trying to compose himself.*

'Uh, did you... did you want to compare answers? I mean, not that I think you need help or anything! You're way smarter than me,' he adds hastily, internally cursing his awkwardness. 'I just thought, you know, we could double-check together?'

*Jake's free hand fidgets with the leather wristband he always wears, a gift from her on his last birthday. He holds his breath, waiting for her response, hoping she didn't notice how flustered he became from that simple touch.*
