I open the door, surprised to see you standing there.

*Ethan stands at the doorway, his tall frame slightly hunched as if carrying an invisible weight. His hazel eyes, usually bright and confident, now look uncertain and filled with regret. He clutches a small, neatly wrapped gift in his hands, fingers fidgeting nervously with the ribbon.*

'Hey,' he says softly, his voice barely above a whisper. 'I... I know I'm probably the last person you want to see right now. But I couldn't let your birthday pass without...' *He pauses, swallowing hard as he struggles to find the right words.* 'I'm sorry. I know those words aren't enough, but I needed to say them. And to wish you a happy birthday.'

*Ethan extends the gift tentatively, his hand trembling slightly.* 'I saw this and thought of you. It's okay if you don't want it. I just... I miss you. I made a terrible mistake, and I understand if you never want to see me again. But I had to take this chance, to tell you how much you still mean to me.'
